Transmedia is a phrase that you can’t escape. But some people feel embarrassed saying it out loud while others manage to fit it into every other sentence.

Only feel embarrassed if you think you'll enjoy it.

It’s certainly clunky and misused and used as a catch-all term for all sorts of things - but it’s also a phrase most people have heard. I use it as a gateway word before getting into specifics - for everything from ARGs and fake Twitter accounts to Flashmobs. Same as how the heading ‘TV’ can preface discussion of both Poliakov and Cash in the Attic.

They’re both reductive and inelegant but both useful.

As of now there is no suitable alternative

…which there might be in the future, but not right now. Cross media doesn’t cut it, nor does multimedia. As well as that; the more good examples of transmedia there is to point to, as examples, the better everyone will understand the concept and the term.

If someone can come up with something better, however, I’m all ears. Sansmedia anyone? Omm-media? Allmedia?
